Full-Day Yarapa River Tour Itinerary
5:00 AM – Hotel Pickup in Iquitos and Transfer to Nauta
Your day begins with an early pickup at your hotel in Iquitos. From there, we travel by road toward Nauta, approximately 100 km from the city.
Upon arrival, we board our boat and begin our journey into the Amazonian river system.
7:30 AM – Wildlife Watching on the Marañón River
We start navigating the Marañón River, one of the major rivers of the Peruvian Amazon.
As we travel along the riverbanks, we look for birds, monkeys, sloths and river dolphins. Depending on the conditions, you may also spot herons, kingfishers, toucans, macaws and other Amazonian bird species.
Keep your camera ready and watch the riverbanks and treetops as the rainforest comes to life around you.
10:00 AM – Visit to Puerto Miguel Community
We continue to Puerto Miguel, a riverside community where you can learn about everyday life in the Amazon.
During the visit, you will have an opportunity to learn about local activities, customs and the relationship between the community, the river and the surrounding forest.
This stop offers a glimpse into the human side of the Amazon, beyond its wildlife and landscapes.
11:00 AM – Explore the Yarapa River
We continue by boat toward the Yarapa River, an Amazonian tributary surrounded by rainforest.
Here, the focus shifts to wildlife observation. We search for pink and gray river dolphins, birds and other animals that may be active along the riverbanks.
If river conditions and safety considerations allow, there may also be an opportunity to swim. Swimming is subject to the guide's assessment of the conditions and is not guaranteed.
12:30 PM – Amazonian Lunch on Board
Take a break and enjoy an Amazonian-style lunch aboard the boat, surrounded by the sights and sounds of the rainforest.
After lunch, we continue exploring the Yarapa River and looking for wildlife along its waterways.
1:30 PM – Search for Monkeys and Amazon Wildlife
We continue navigating the Yarapa River in search of monkeys, sloths and tropical birds.
Depending on the area and the conditions, possible sightings may include woolly monkeys, uakaris, night monkeys and squirrel monkeys, as well as other rainforest species.
Your guide will help you look for movement in the trees and identify signs of wildlife. Because these animals live freely in their natural environment, sightings vary from one trip to another.
3:00 PM – Guided Walk Through Primary Rainforest
When trail and weather conditions permit, we leave the boat for a guided walk through primary rainforest.
Discover the forest from a different perspective as your guide introduces you to Amazonian trees, plants and signs of animal activity.
Along the trail, you may learn about:
-
Plants traditionally used for medicinal purposes.
-
Large rainforest trees and their ecological importance.
-
Leaf-cutter ants and other insects.
-
Frogs and other small rainforest animals.
-
Footprints and other signs of wildlife.
The walk offers a closer look at the forest ecosystem and the diversity of life that may be less visible from the river.
4:30 PM – Return Journey by River
After the rainforest walk, we begin our return journey.
As we navigate back, we continue watching the riverbanks and surrounding forest for additional wildlife sightings during the afternoon.
7:00 PM – Arrival in Iquitos
We expect to arrive back in Iquitos at approximately 7:00 PM, marking the end of your full-day Yarapa River wildlife adventure.
Arrival times may vary depending on weather, river conditions, navigation and other circumstances.
