A journey to the heartland of Pacaya Samiria
DAY ONE:
Explore Pacaya Samiria: Amazon Rainforest Expedition from Iquitos
Begin your Pacaya Samiria tour in the vibrant city of Iquitos, then travel to the historic town of Nauta — considered the gateway to the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, one of the most biodiverse protected areas in the Peruvian Amazon. From Nauta’s main port, embark on a traditional wooden boat and start your unforgettable Marañón River tour.

After approximately 3.5 hours of scenic river navigation, you’ll reach the first Control Station (PV.1 – Yanayacu-Pucate Basin), where official registration is completed. Your journey then continues to the remote village of Buenos Aires, where you will spend the night surrounded by the Amazon’s lush beauty.

As night falls, the rainforest awakens. Join a guided Amazon wildlife experience featuring birdwatching, caiman spotting, and the search for nocturnal species that inhabit this extraordinary ecosystem. It’s an immersive way to connect with the natural world in one of Earth’s most pristine environments.
DAY TWO:
On our way to the core of Pacaya Samiria.
At dawn, we begin the day with a nourishing breakfast before continuing our Amazon expedition. Leaving the Pucate River behind, we navigate into the Yanayacu River, a waterway that leads us deeper into the untouched wilderness of the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve.

As we travel, the richness of the Amazon reveals itself. Visitors will have the opportunity to observe an extraordinary variety of Amazonian wildlife, including vibrant bird species, playful monkeys, green iguanas, and other native creatures that thrive in this biodiverse environment. We pause midday for a relaxing lunch in the jungle, enjoying the natural shade and cool ambiance provided by the dense vegetation.

Our journey continues until we reach Yarina, one of the last inhabited villages along this route. This remote settlement offers a unique glimpse into life in the heart of the Peruvian Amazon.

In the late afternoon, we set up camp at a site previously designated by our guide. Guests are invited to participate in pitching tents and preparing the campsite, fostering a spirit of collaboration and immersion. After a warm and comforting dinner, we gather to share stories from the day, before retreating for the night. You’ll fall asleep to the soothing and unforgettable sounds of the jungle — a truly authentic Amazonian experience.
DAY THREE:
Amazon Rainforest Adventure: Wildlife Encounters and Flexible Exploration
The day begins with the melodic song of birds and the distant calls of howler monkeys, creating a symphony unique to the Amazon rainforest. After a nourishing breakfast, we dismantle our campsite and resume our journey, continually amazed by the natural wonders surrounding us. Along the way, we may observe iconic species such as the hoatzin — a prehistoric bird native to the Amazon — as well as herons, caimans, hawks, and a wide array of other Amazonian wildlife.

Our route leads us to the Warmi-Isla Ranger Station, an important checkpoint within the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. Depending on weather conditions or at the discretion of the park rangers, we may establish our next campsite at this location.
The afternoon is designed to be flexible, with activities left to each traveler’s preference. Whether you choose to rest, explore independently, or take a guided walk, this portion of the journey allows for a deeper personal connection with the surrounding Amazon ecosystem at your own pace.
DAY FOUR:
Amazon Expedition to El Dorado Lake: Wildlife, Nature, and Adventure in Pacaya Samiria

We begin our day at sunrise by dismantling the campsite and resuming our journey toward one of the most iconic destinations within the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve: the legendary El Dorado Lake. As we navigate deeper into the heart of the Amazon, we are continually captivated by sightings of new bird and mammal species that inhabit this incredibly biodiverse region.

Our first stop is at the Achong Ranger Station, where we complete mandatory registration procedures and enjoy a freshly prepared breakfast surrounded by pristine nature. During this break, we embark on a short interpretive walk to observe a native rubber tree (Shiringa) and other valuable Amazonian hardwood species, gaining insight into the ecological and cultural importance of the region’s flora.

We then continue our river route, crossing a small lagoon teeming with birdlife. Here, travelers may spot herons, cormorants, jacanas, hoatzins, camungos, and many other exotic species, making it a paradise for birdwatching enthusiasts. Around midday, we arrive at the mythical El Dorado Lake, one of the most biologically rich and visually stunning areas in the reserve.

Upon arrival, we register at the Canta Gallo Ranger Station, located on the shores of the lagoon, and set up our campsite in a designated area. After a well-deserved lunch, we prepare for one of the tour’s most exciting highlights: a guided piranha fishing experience, a traditional and thrilling activity deeply rooted in Amazonian culture.

This portion of the journey offers one of the most authentic and unforgettable Amazon rainforest experiences — a deep immersion into the natural wonders of Peru’s Amazon that combines adventure, learning, and environmental connection
