Wildlife tour in the Peruvian jungle.
DAY ONE:
Along the edges of Pacaya Samiria.
Our trip begins at 8:00 a.m. One of our guides, along with our driver, will pick you up from your hotel or the airport. A car ride of approximately 1.5 hours will end in the city of Nauta, the only city connected to Iquitos by road. Once in Nauta, a beautiful, comfortable, and traditional boat will be ready to take us to the Yarapa Communal Reserve, in the buffer zone of the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. Our ecolodge is located in the middle of a beautiful jungle.
Depending on the season and weather conditions, it takes about 2.5 hours to reach our lodge. The edges of the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve will allow us to enjoy the beauty of colorful birds, river dolphins, and, if we're lucky, a sloth hanging from the branches of the Punga trees (Pseudobombax munguba).
We will arrive at the hostel around 1 p.m.
After lunch, we'll take a break for an hour before heading out on our first excursion.
We'll wear rubber boots for our hike through a primary rainforest where we'll see giant tree species, different types of palm trees, and at the same time look for land mammals. Our guide will explain the use of some seeds in local crafts. He will also teach us about various medicinal plants and their current uses.
We will return to the hostel before nightfall.
Dinner will be served in the hostel dining room.
After enjoying our delicious dinner, we'll grab our headlamps or flashlights and head out in search of alligators. Some nearby lagoons are habitats for these animals, and we hope to capture them, take some photos, and then release them back into the wild.
DAY TWO:
Amazonian birds, local lifestyle, pink dolphins.
Our second day will be very promising. We'll wake up early in the morning to go birdwatching. There are 449 species of birds recorded in this area, and this morning we'll try to see as many as we can. Herons, egrets, macaws, toucans, woodpeckers, gulls, hawks, eagles, kingfishers, hummingbirds, flycatchers, and trogons are the most popular and easy to see. But we won't just see birds. We'll also encounter monkeys, sloths, and green iguanas that live in the treetops along the riverbanks.
We need to return to the hostel at breakfast time.
Afterwards, we will go out to visit a nearby community called Puerto Miguel.
Puerto Miguel is a beautiful, quiet, welcoming, and well-organized community belonging to the Cocama tribe. Despite having lost their ancestral customs, they still maintain interesting features, which our guide will explain to us during our visit this morning. This will also be a nice opportunity to see if any of the residents have a sloth at home so you can hold it and take photos with it. You'll love this little animal.
We will return to the hostel at lunchtime.
After finishing our delicious lunch, we'll pack our camping gear and head out in search of a suitable spot to pitch our tents and build a typical wooden hut with the help of our local guides.
At the same time, some of us will be building a bonfire where we will grill our dinner.
Depending on the weather conditions, we will go on a fishing excursion with arrows or nets.
We will spend the night in the tents after listening to some myths and legends of the Peruvian jungle.
DAY THREE:
Camping in the jungle. Wildlife hunting.
A beautiful sunrise awaits us, accompanied by the sound of dozens of birds and, of course, the howler monkey, whose voice can be heard from miles away. We'll have breakfast in the middle of this primary rainforest, and then
We will pack our camping gear and head back to the hostel.
We will have lunch in the hostel dining room.
This afternoon, around 3 p.m., we'll set out on a cruise along the Yarapa River. Its beautiful black waters will guide us to the majestic Amazon. We'll use our traditional boats for this activity.
Upon reaching the mouth of this river, we'll find a beautiful spot to see pink dolphins, who, out of curiosity, surface, revealing their beautiful bodies. Our guide will explain all about this legendary animal and how its species has been threatened by humans.
We hope to have a beautiful sunset which we will enjoy from our inflatable boats.
Return to the hostel at dusk.
After dinner, we'll go for a walk through the forest in search of giant frogs, tarantulas, snakes, scorpions, and many species of nocturnal insects. Occasionally, we may encounter mice, opossums, and other animals during the walk.
DAY FOUR:
Fishing for piranhas in the Amazon.
We'll rest until breakfast before heading out for piranha fishing. We're sure to catch several more species of fish, but the goal is to catch the fearsome piranhas of the Amazon River.
Back at the lodge, our cook will prepare a small meal of our catch to accompany our lunch.
This will be our last moment in this wonderful jungle.
We will begin our journey back to the city of Iquitos.
NOTE: Arrival in the city will be approximately 6:30 p.m. All of our programs are flexible, and activities may change depending on weather conditions. We're ready for an unforgettable adventure!
