DAY ONE:

Journey into Pacaya Samiria

After breakfast, one of our vehicles and a certified guide will pick you up from your hotel in Iquitos. We’ll begin a scenic 1.5-hour drive to the port town of Nauta, the gateway to the Pacaya Samiria Reserve.
In Nauta, we board a comfortable speedboat for a 5-hour journey along the majestic Marañón River. As we navigate deeper into the Amazon, you’ll witness a changing landscape teeming with lush vegetation and rich biodiversity.

Midway through our journey, we’ll stop at the First Control Station in the Samiria River Basin. Here, we’ll present our permits and register our entry into this Protected Natural Area. Our guide, along with a local park ranger, will explain the ecological significance of the reserve and introduce the key species that inhabit it.

Continuing upriver, we reach the remote community of San Martín de Tipishca, home to the Cocama Cocamilla people. This welcoming village will be our base camp for the days ahead. Estimated arrival: 2:00 p.m.

Upon arrival, we’ll settle into a local family home for an authentic Amazonian homestay. Take a moment to rest as your hosts prepare a delicious homemade lunch using regional ingredients.

In the afternoon, we’ll explore the community on foot. Visit family farms, discover ancestral traditions, and learn how this community lives in harmony with nature—preserving both culture and biodiversity.

Later, we head by boat to a nearby Amazonian creek, where we may spot grey and pink river dolphins in their natural habitat. You’ll also have a chance to swim nearby and observe a rich variety of tropical birds.

We’ll wrap up the day by watching a stunning sunset over the beautiful lake, a magical moment surrounded by the sounds of the jungle.

Return to the community for a homemade dinner with your hosts.

Afterward, enjoy a peaceful rest and recharge for the adventures that await on day two.

DAY TWO:

Camping, Wildlife & Night Expeditions in Pacaya Samiria

We’ll start the day early with a traditional Amazonian breakfast, then gather our camping gear and board a boat bound for the heart of the Pacaya Samiria Reserve.

Before noon, we’ll reach a secluded lagoon teeming with birdlife and river dolphins. With the help of our local guide, we’ll set up camp in a safe and scenic area, then prepare a fresh lunch over a campfire

In the afternoon, we’ll take part in a thrilling fishing excursion, focusing on piranhas, though other native fish species may also be caught. Later, we’ll prepare our catch using traditional Amazonian cooking methods for dinner.

After dinner, we’ll embark on a night boat expedition to search for caimans along the shores of the lagoon. With care and respect for the animals, we’ll attempt to safely catch and photograph a few specimens for an unforgettable wildlife experience.

DAY THREE:

Wildlife Encounters, Jungle Trails & Amazonian Traditions

We’ll wake up to the melodic calls of tropical birds, then head out on an early morning birdwatching walk. With a bit of luck, we may also spot the paiche, the Amazon’s largest and most iconic fish species.

After breakfast, we’ll navigate a remote tributary of the Samiria River to reach our next campsite. Along the way, we may spot monkeys, exotic birds, and—if fortune smiles—giant river otters in their natural habitat.

As our cook prepares a traditional lunch, we’ll pitch our tents and enjoy a short rest. In the afternoon, we’ll set out to explore nearby jungle trails, searching for signs of elusive wildlife such as jaguar tracks, tapirs, and other large mammals.

After dinner at the campsite, we’ll head out for a nighttime walk along the riverbank to practice traditional arrow fishing, a skill passed down through generations. This area is known for rare encounters with anacondas and electric eels, making the experience both thrilling and unforgettable.

DAY FOUR:

Jungle Hike, Ranger Station Experience & Nocturnal Wildlife

After breakfast, we’ll break down our camp and begin a 1.5-hour guided hike through the Amazon rainforest. Our path leads us to the banks of the Samiria River, where a boat will be waiting to take us to Ranger´s Station N° 03.

We’ll stop along the riverbank to prepare lunch in a breathtaking natural setting, surrounded by the sounds of the jungle.

Upon arrival, we’ll register at the official ranger station. If conditions allow, we’ll spend the night at the post—an exceptional opportunity to interact with local park rangers, learn about their daily responsibilities, and even participate in some of their activities.

At dusk, we’ll venture out to explore a nearby lagoon, searching for iconic nocturnal species such as vipers, anacondas, owls, and other elusive jungle creatures that come alive at night.

DAY FIVE:

Return Journey Through the Wild of Pacaya Samiria

After breakfast, we’ll begin our return journey to the community of San Martín de Tipishca. We’ll spend much of the day navigating winding jungle rivers, passing through stunning natural scenery—colorful birds soaring overhead, families of monkeys swinging through the canopy, and, with a bit of luck, sightings of majestic Amazon wildlife such as the tapir or the giant river otter.

The sounds of flowing water and the ambient symphony of the rainforest will accompany us. This peaceful boat ride allows for quiet contemplation, meaningful conversations, and restful moments as we glide through the Amazon’s natural corridors.

At sunset, we’ll arrive back in San Martín de Tipishca, where our local hosts will greet us with a warm, home-cooked dinner. In the peaceful atmosphere of the community, we’ll unwind after a full day of travel, share reflections, and enjoy the serenity of an Amazonian night under the stars.
