Explore the essence of the Amazon: River and cultural tour in Pacaya Samiria

Get ready to experience a unique adventure in the heart of the Amazon jungle. Our day begins very early, between 6:00 and 7:00 a.m., depending on weather conditions. We will depart from Iquitos by road on a journey of approximately 100 km (1.5 hours) to the city of Nauta, the historic gateway to the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve.

There, we will board a specially equipped boat to begin our navigation along the majestic Marañón River, one of the major tributaries of the Amazon. From the very first moments, we will be surrounded by the symphony of the jungle: bird songs, the rustling of the wind through the trees, and the gentle flow of the river.

🦜 River exploration and wildlife spotting

During the river journey, we will follow the borders of the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, the largest in South America and one of the most biodiverse places on Earth.
We will have the chance to see:
• Macaws, toucans, herons, kingfishers, and hawks.
• Pink and gray dolphins playing in the waters.
• Sloths resting among the branches.

🏘️ Visit to the community of Puerto Miguel

After 1.5 hours of navigation, we will arrive at Puerto Miguel, a riverside community that represents Amazonian life in its purest form. With our guide, we will learn about their customs, social organization, sustainable economy, and traditional beliefs.

Some homes coexist with animals like sloths and boa constrictors, not as pets, but as part of a harmonious relationship between humans and nature. This respectful coexistence reflects the ancestral vision of balance in the Amazon.

🐬 Yarapa River: Dolphins and Amazon swim

Next, we will head to the entrance of the Yarapa River, a place of unparalleled beauty, ideal for spotting pink and gray dolphins. Those who wish can enjoy a refreshing swim in the clear, calm waters of the Amazon, surrounded by lush vegetation and wild sounds.

🍽️ Lunch on board

We will enjoy a typical Amazonian lunch served on board, fully connected with the surroundings. While savoring local dishes, we will continue to enjoy the scenery and, hopefully, more wildlife encounters.

🐒 Encounter with primates and hike in the primary jungle

After lunch, we will continue upriver in search of various species of monkeys such as:
• Howler monkeys, white-fronted capuchins, tamarins, and squirrel monkeys
• As well as woodpeckers, hawks, macaws, and other tropical birds

If conditions allow, we will take a guided walk through the primary jungle where we will learn about:
• Ancient trees and medicinal plants
• Leaf-cutter ants and their ecological role
• Camouflaged frogs, exotic insects, and secrets of the tropical rainforest.

🌅 Return to  Iquitos

We will conclude this deep immersion into Amazonian nature and culture by heading back to the city of Iquitos, with an estimated arrival time of 7:00 p.m.
