DAY ONE:
Amazon River feeding paiche, caimans, and turtles. Pink dolphin spotting. Night walk.
One of our guides and our friendly driver will pick you up from your hotel or the airport to kick off this exciting journey. We'll head to the impressive Nanay Bridge where you can marvel at the sight of the Nanay and Itaya Rivers merging into the majestic Amazon. Next, we'll take a stroll through the small, vibrant Bellavista-Nanay market, where you'll discover a variety of local products like aguaje, suri, and refreshing jungle juices.
Hop aboard our boat and get ready for a unique experience! We'll watch as the dark waters of the Nanay River meet the milky-coffee color of the Amazon.
We'll then depart for Pillpintuwasi, the Butterfly Farm. This beautiful place allows us to learn about the metamorphosis of different butterfly species. After our visit, we'll make a brief stop at a Kukama tribe family. They'll perform their traditional dances as a showcase of their culture. Afterward, we'll head to a Bora tribe colony to participate in their dances and learn about their ethnic group's way of life.
We'll get back on our boat, and lunch will be served. After a 20-minute boat ride, we'll arrive at Fundo Pedrito, a magical place where you can admire the gigantic Victoria Regia lily pads and encounter fascinating creatures like piranhas and the impressive pirarucu (paiche). We'll also get to feed caimans and river turtles.
We'll continue our journey until we reach our lodge, arriving around 5:30 PM.
After getting settled into our cabins, we'll enjoy a nap, and then dinner will be served.
In the evening, we'll head out for a night walk in search of tarantulas, snakes, and frogs.
DAY TWO:
Birdwatching, piranha fishing. Indigenous tribes. Tales and legends of the jungle.
We're starting a new day full of promise! We'll set out early in search of birds in the Timicurillo Gorge, where we'll try to spot as many as possible. Upon returning, we'll enjoy a delicious breakfast before heading out to fish for piranhas in the Amazon River or one of its tributaries. Who knows what other species we might catch!
We'll take the piranhas we catch for our lunch.
After lunch, we'll have the opportunity to meet a family from the Yagua tribe. We'll learn about their culture, dances, and blowgun hunting techniques. Don't forget to take some handicrafts as a souvenir! We'll return to the lodge before sunset.
For legend lovers, tonight after dinner, we'll gather in the hammock lounge to hear fascinating stories about the jungle. Get ready to meet the Red-backed Godwit, the Mermaid, and the Tunchi!
DAY THREE:
Getting to know the Ceiba tree and medicinal plants.
This is our last sunrise in the Amazon rainforest. After breakfast, we'll set off on a hike through the forest to learn about some medicinal plant species and their use in treating various illnesses. The trail will take us to a gigantic Ceiba tree, locally known as Lupuna.
We will walk back and along the way, we will look for some species of monkeys and sloths.
We'll have lunch at the hostel, and once we're done, we'll pack our bags to return to Iquitos.
TOURIST HOTEL: Our accommodation for tonight is at the most beautiful hotel in the city, with a breathtaking panoramic view from its terraces.
DAY FOUR:
Historic center of Iquitos, Belén market, Amazon Rescue Center.
We'll begin this interesting tour at 7:00 a.m. Our guide will pick you up from your hotel and take you to the Belén Market, where you'll see a wide variety of Amazonian products. In this market, you'll also find a small space called Pasaje Paquito, also known as the Jungle Pharmacy, where you can find natural remedies and medicines made from different plant species and, in some cases, animal-based. You can also taste and learn about the variety of aphrodisiac drinks. A place you shouldn't miss. After our tour, we'll visit Casa Morey, a building dating back to the rubber era and now one of the city's main hotels. Afterward, we'll take a short tour aboard one of the first boats to travel the Amazon River, the Ayapúa.
After our visit, we'll walk to the Plaza de Armas, where our guide will give a historical overview of Iquitos. He'll explain the main church, the Iron House, the former Palace Hotel, and all the other iconic buildings on the beautiful island.
One of the places we shouldn't miss is the Museum of Indigenous Cultures of the Amazon. The guide will give us a brief tour of this interesting place, which houses much of the cultural wealth of our Indigenous peoples in the Peruvian rainforest. We'll have lunch at a restaurant in the city center, and then head to the Amazon Rescue Center (CREA).
This Rescue Center is one of the most important projects being developed in our city. We'll learn about the main species that have been rescued to date. Above all, we'll learn how this incredible project began and how important it is to raise awareness among Amazonian residents about the protection and conservation of our wildlife.
The city zoo will be our last stop today, which we will visit after completing our tour of the rescue center. Inside the zoo, we will be able to appreciate and learn about the wide variety of animals native to the Neotropics, some of which are endemic to the Peruvian rainforest.
This spacious area features a beautiful lagoon with a tempting artificial beach where we can swim and enjoy the sunset. We'll return to the city at dusk.
NOTE: Approximate arrival time to the city: 5:00 p.m.
